Symbol attributes

symbol_with_attributes

Attributes let you attach text descriptions to symbols. To create them, click the Attributes link at the bottom of the Properties panel (appears after you double-click the symbol).

A dialog window opens where you specify the attribute name, its value, and whether it should be visible in the drawing.

Attribute names can only contain letters and numbers, cannot start with a number, and should start with a capital letter.

Positions of attributes

You can control where attributes appear when a new symbol is inserted.

Here's how:

  1. Insert a symbol into the drawing.
  2. Drag the symbol's attributes to the positions you want.
  3. Right-click the symbol and select Save positions of labels.

Library Configuration

To avoid entering the same attributes for every symbol, you can predefine attributes for entire symbol groups. Go to File - Library Configuration. A dialog box with the symbol library appears. Select the symbol group in the left pane. The right pane has two tabs: Attributes and Symbols.

You can leave the attribute value empty or enter the most commonly used value. Every symbol inserted into a drawing inherits the attributes of its group and all parent groups. Attributes you add to the "ProfiCAD Library" group apply to all symbols. After making changes, run View - Reload Items to refresh the library.

Symbols

This tab shows all symbols in the selected group. For each symbol, you can set default values for two key attributes: reference and type.
